Electrical Engineer

We are seeking an ambitious and motivated Electrical Engineer to join our established Belfast team. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of projects across sectors including commercial, healthcare, education, residential, industrial, and public infrastructure.

As part of a multidisciplinary consultancy environment, you will contribute to the design and delivery of high-quality building services solutions, working closely with clients, architects, contractors, and fellow engineering professionals. The successful candidate will be technically capable and commercially aware.

What you'll do

  • Design electrical building services systems, including power distribution, lighting, emergency lighting, fire alarm, security, and renewable energy installations.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, specifications, technical reports, and design documentation.
  • Develop electrical designs using industry-standard software and BIM platforms.
  • Assist in the delivery of projects from concept and feasibility through to detailed design, construction, and handover.
  • Coordinate designs with mechanical, structural, architectural, and specialist disciplines.
  • Attend client, design team, and site meetings as required.
  • Ensure designs comply with current regulations, standards, and best practice guidance.
  • Identify technical challenges and contribute practical engineering solutions.
  • Support and mentor graduate and junior engineers within the team.
  • Deliver work to agreed quality standards, budgets, and project programmes.

Some of our work in recent years include:

  • Commercial: We are involved in multiple commercial and regeneration projects across Northern Ireland, including the Bangor Marine Gardens and marina redevelopment, the development of a new civic office and upgrades to existing civic properties for Belfast City Council, and projects in the Lagan Valley area. Our local office is also delivering upgrades to Dundonald International Ice Bowl.
  • Healthcare: AECOM is an award-winning leading consultant for the NHS in the UK and internationally, delivering projects ranging from major acute hospitals to primary care facilities and estate refurbishment schemes, while supporting the NHS Net Zero Carbon agenda.
  • Education: AECOM's team has delivered a range of impactful education projects, including campus developments, refurbishments and innovative academic facilities. Our work focuses on achieving sustainability targets, including BREEAM certification, integrating cutting-edge technologies and enhancing student living and learning environments. Key local projects include work across multiple campuses for Ulster University and Queen's University Belfast. We are also delivering school refurbishment and new-build replacement school programmes across multiple sites in Northern Ireland.
  • Decarbonisation: We have undertaken feasibility studies for multiple projects involving the replacement of boilers with air-source and water-source heat pumps to provide heating and cooling. These projects span a range of building types and include commercial properties such as 80–100 Victoria Street in London and the British Library, multiple residential buildings within the Royal Borough of Greenwich, and Windsor Castle.
  • Residential: We have worked with housing associations across Northern Ireland to deliver low-carbon social housing. We are also currently supporting large-scale residential projects in Ireland for the Land Development Agency, helping to deliver low-carbon homes.

Ready to push the limits of what's possible?

  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working within a building services consultancy environment.
  • Knowledge of UK and Irish building regulations, standards, and electrical design practices.
  • Proficiency in electrical design software and BIM.
  • Strong communication and client-facing skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
