Building Surveyor

Our client is a UK-based industry leader, providing A-rated 10/12-year structural warranties and construction performance bonds. They serve house builders, local authorities, and housing associations, specializing in diverse projects such as new residential developments, mixed-use spaces, commercial constructions, and public infrastructure.  With a strong commitment to excellence, our client plays a vital role in the success of construction endeavours across the UK.


As a Building Surveyor, you will play a vital role in ensuring that properties meet building regulations and are constructed to the highest standards. You will be responsible for conducting risk assessments on properties registered by our client, with the goal of issuing insurance cover upon completion. You will also have the opportunity to represent our client as a brand ambassador, promoting their values and ethos.


Reporting Relationships and Role Outline:

Conduct thorough site inspections for 10-year structural warranty insurance cover on new build dwellings. This involves inspecting the dwellings at various stages during construction and collaborating with builders to address technical issues or sub-standard/remedial works.

Inspect existing properties and prepare comprehensive condition survey reports.

Examine properties and create claim validation reports, including costings for remedial works required for insurance purposes.

Assess building defects and compile expert reports for clients involved in building contract disputes.

Investigate structural issues and rainwater ingress claims, coordinating with contractors/developers to eliminate structural problems and moisture ingress throughout buildings.

If you identify potential business leads and new sites, proactively pass them to the Business Development team to follow up and drive business growth.

Utilize our bespoke GHW systems to efficiently log all reports and work.

Maintain clear and effective communication with clients and customers to organize visits, managing your own online diary efficiently.

Collaborate closely with the Administration team to ensure work updates and certificates are issued in a timely manner.

Be adaptable to handle any other duties as required by Directors or Management.


This role is performed remotely, with all necessary equipment provided to support your work.

Essential Competencies/ Knowledge and Skills:

Hold a Level 6 qualification in Building Surveying or equivalent.

Possess hands-on experience in private residential construction from foundation to completion.

Demonstrated working knowledge of current UK building regulations.

Full driver's license.

Customer service-focused with exceptional oral and written communication skills.

Strong organizational and time management abilities.

Ability to prioritize work to meet strict deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Work effectively both independently in a pressurized environment and as part of a team with minimal supervision.

Proficiency in IT, with a strong command of MS packages.

Problem-solving skills and the ability to think clearly.

Exhibit interpersonal skills and maintain a positive attitude towards work and colleagues.

Client-focused, gaining trust and respect through professional conduct.

Proactive, with effective time management skills.

Accountable and responsible, maintaining client confidentiality at all times.

Previous experience within the structural warranty industry would be advantageous.

Willingness to travel across the UK.

Chartered surveyor status through RICS or CIOB is desirable.

Be prepared to perform any other duties as required.

Health and Safety Responsibilities:

Take reasonable care of the Health and Safety of yourself and others affected by your actions.

Work safely and adhere to Company Health and Safety Rules and Procedures.

Report incidents and injuries promptly to your manager/ Health and Safety manager.

Promptly report any injuries occurring at work and seek necessary first aid treatment.

Collaborate with managers and the Company to achieve a healthy and safe workplace environment.

Assist in the investigation of accidents to prevent recurrence.

Adhere to the company handbook, maintain a professional image at all times, and follow all Health and Safety regulations in the office.

Lead by example with safe, correct behaviour on sites and in the office.

Report any hazards or defects promptly to your immediate manager.

Report any deficiencies in systems of work or procedures to your manager.

Do not interfere with or misuse any provided safety equipment or materials.

All of the above responsibilities are applicable both on sites and in the office.


This role is performed remotely, and all necessary equipment will be provided to support your work.

  • Reporting to: Managing Surveyor

  • Probationary Period: 6 months
