Senior Software Engineer (Java) - #2177471

MCS Group is working exclusively with a high-growth technology organisation as they establish a new engineering presence in Northern Ireland. We're looking for experienced Senior Software Engineers who enjoy building software, solving interesting technical problems and using modern AI tools to improve how they work.

This is pretty much a fully remote opportunity (1-2 days per month in the office), offering the chance to join a growing engineering team, take real ownership of your work and contribute to the development of enterprise software products.

We're looking for engineers who enjoy being hands-on, writing quality code and working across different technologies. You'll be joining an organisation that values pragmatic engineering, modern tooling and the ability to deliver great software without unnecessary complexity.

What you'll be doing

• Design, develop and deliver scalable, production-ready software.
• Work across existing enterprise platforms and new product development.
• Build and maintain backend services, APIs and frontend applications where required.
• Contribute to technical design discussions and engineering decisions.
• Use AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, code quality and delivery.
• Collaborate with other experienced engineers to solve technical challenges and deliver new features.
• Take ownership of your work from initial development through to production.

What we're looking for

• Strong experience as a Software Engineer, ideally operating at Senior level.
• A proven track record of building and delivering software in production environments (Java would be a distinct advantage).
• Solid technical experience across backend development, with exposure to modern frontend technologies beneficial.
• Good understanding of software design, architecture and engineering best practices.
• Someone comfortable working independently, but equally happy collaborating with other engineers.
• Experience using AI development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code or GitHub Copilot as part of your engineering workflow.
• A genuine interest in how AI is changing software development and a willingness to explore new approaches.

Salary

• Up to £85,000.
