Auto Electrician - Temporary | Belfast City Council

37 hours per week

12-week assignment, starting Monday 12 October 2026

Hatched Recruitment Group is recruiting an experienced Auto Electrician to join Belfast City Council's Fleet Management Unit on a temporary basis. You'll keep the electrical and electronic systems of the council's large, varied fleet safe, reliable and ready for the road.

What you'll be doing:

• Carrying out safety checks, servicing, maintenance and repair of electrical and electronic systems on HGVs, LGVs, EVs, attachments and mobile plant
• Preparing vehicle electrical systems for annual testing and reporting defects early
• Diagnostic testing and fault finding using electrical diagnostic equipment
• Dismantling and reassembling vehicles and plant to repair or replace electrical components
• Driving council vehicles and collecting parts and spares as required
• Completing job costing, time recording and quality assurance paperwork
• Supporting new starters and apprentices where required

What you'll need:

• A full, current driving licence valid in Northern Ireland
• To be a time-served auto electrician with the IMI Level 3 Diploma in Auto-Electrical and Mobile Electrical Operation, an NVQ Level 3 in Motor Vehicle Electric Engineering, or an equivalent qualification
• At least one year's experience in each of the following areas:
• working in a diverse fleet maintenance environment
• working on both HGV and LGV vehicles
• The ability to read electrical and electronic schematics and circuit diagrams
• Good health and safety awareness, including working in confined spaces

A Category CE licence and two or more years' experience in each area are desirable.
