Carbon Accountant - #2081436
The Change Innovation Services Ltd
Carbon Accountant – Belfast
Full-time | Office-based in Belfast | Occasional client site visits
We are hiring a Carbon Accountant to help build the next stage of The Change Impact’s carbon accounting and environmental compliance service.
You will be joining a growing team working with industrial, manufacturing and commercial clients who need to understand their carbon position, meet changing regulatory requirements, and turn environmental data into practical business decisions.
The Change Impact and wider group is a 4th Sector business focused on delivering commercial and environmental impact through action. We work with clients across Northern Ireland, the UK, Germany and internationally, helping them unlock value from innovation while delivering measurable sustainability outcomes.
Our sustainability work already includes carbon accounting, lifecycle assessment, regulatory reporting, emissions reduction and environmental insight. In some cases, this work contributes to major carbon reduction and removal projects, including one client project contributing to the removal of over one million tonnes of CO₂ annually, with further growth expected.
We are now building a focused team around:
· Carbon accounting
· Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions reporting
· CBAM and ETS/ETS2 compliance
· Lifecycle assessments and EPD-related work
· SECR, ESOS, CCA and wider environmental reporting
· Practical client procedures for ongoing compliance
The successful candidate will help clients move from fragmented data and reactive reporting into structured, repeatable carbon and compliance processes.
That means helping clients understand what data they need to collect, where it should come from, who should own it, how it should be checked, and how it feeds into reporting, submissions and annual reviews.
A key early focus will be supporting clients with CBAM and ETS/ETS2-related requirements, including embedded emissions tracking, compliant data collection procedures and regulatory reporting support.
You will work across clients with multiple sites, divisions and supply chains. The role will involve data checking, client communication, internal coordination, report preparation and occasional site visits where needed.
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience or exposure in one or more of the following:
· Carbon accounting or GHG reporting
· Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions calculations
· CBAM, ETS or ETS2 awareness or reporting exposure
· Lifecycle assessments, EPDs or embodied carbon
· SECR, ESOS, CCA or environmental regulatory reporting
· Sustainability data, audit support or environmental compliance
· Energy, manufacturing, consultancy or industrial sustainability
You do not need to have done everything listed above.
We are looking for someone with a strong foundation, good data discipline, commercial common sense and the appetite to develop into a deeper technical role as the team grows.
This role would suit someone who enjoys structured, detailed work but does not want to sit in a narrow spreadsheet-only position. Carbon accounting in practice means dealing with imperfect client data, asking the right questions, checking assumptions, building processes, and making technical requirements usable for real businesses.
You will be joining while the service line is still being shaped. That means you will not simply inherit a fixed process and follow it. You will help build templates, workflows, client procedures and internal capability as the carbon accounting and compliance function develops.
This role is for someone who wants to build expertise, in a rapidly evolving new area.
