This role will report to the leader of the EMEA Service Delivery Leader. This team delivers network engineering & training services for Ciena’s customer’s as well as deployment support for our internal project management and leadership teams.
Ciena’s Service Delivery team aim to be the best-in-class system integrator in our industry. AI is of critical importance to this objective, and we are evolving traditional Network Engineering workflows to incorporate AI enhancements reliably and efficiently. As a Placement Student, working as a AI software developer, you can expect to gain valuable hands-on experience and exposure to the development of these AI enhanced workflows.
Additionally, working in the Network Engineering Service Delivery team you will develop a solid understanding of the Network Infrastructure that provides the low latency, high performance demands of AI workloads. Ciena plays a key role in building the Network Infrastructure required for our customer’s AI workloads
Here Are Some Potential Expectations
AI: During this placement our team will be building our own Large Language Model, training that model using our existing datasets and correcting with our vast Network Engineering experience. This is an exciting time, where you can be part of the decision making regarding how AI gets incorporated into our traditional network engineering workflows.
You will have the chance to learn about the latest network infrastructure, protocols, and technologies. As a networking vendor, Ciena are at the cutting edge of new technologies in the optical, Routing and Switching markets. This may include understanding Photonics, routing, switching, network security, and troubleshooting techniques.
Assisting Network Engineers: You will work closely with experienced network engineers on real-world projects. Your tasks may involve assisting with network design, configuration and implementation support, however with a primary focus on the DevOps aspects.
Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: You could have the opportunity to identify and resolve network issues. This could involve analyzing network performance, diagnosing problems, and implementing solutions.
Collaboration: You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as Project Managers, system engineers, and solution architects. This will help you understand how network engineering fits into the broader Ciena ecosystem.
Documentation and Reporting: You may be responsible for documenting network configurations, creating reports, and updating network diagrams. This will help you develop skills in documentation and communication.
Professional Development: You will have the chance to attend training sessions, workshops, and networking events. These opportunities can enhance your technical skills and provide insights into the industry.
Ciena is a global company providing the opportunity for travel. This role is focused in EMEA and opportunity to travel and work in Paris, London and other important European cities may be accommodated. Additional travel beyond EMEA may also be accommodated, depending on the requirements to collaborate with global experts and customers.
