THE ROLE

Innovations Tax Manager – UK

Purpose Of The Role / Key Responsibilities

As an Innovations Tax Manager at AAB, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality innovation incentives advice to our clients, helping them access valuable reliefs that support business growth. This is a hands-on role with the opportunity to shape client engagements and contribute to the continued expansion of our national R&D tax offering.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Leading the delivery of R&D tax relief claims for a range of clients, from ambitious SMEs to larger privately owned and PE-backed businesses.
  • Engaging with clients to gather relevant financial and technical information, assessing project eligibility, and clearly articulating the benefits of R&D tax relief.
  • Managing multiple R&D projects from end to end — coordinating internal teams, setting budgets and timelines, and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality work.
  • Building strong client relationships and acting as a trusted advisor, identifying opportunities to add value and collaborate with other AAB service lines.
  • Undertaking detailed technical research where needed, and presenting practical, commercially focused advice to clients in meetings and written reports.
  • Contributing to business development activities, including proposal writing, attending pitch meetings, and helping to grow the profile of the R&D tax team.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior team members, fostering a positive team culture and helping to build internal knowledge and capability.
  • Keeping up to date with changes in R&D tax legislation and HMRC guidance, identifying planning opportunities and risks for clients.

Experience And Skills Required

  • Preferred background:
    • CTA, ACA, ACCA or other relevant tax/accounting qualification; or
    • A technical or engineering background (e.g., STEM degree or commercial R&D experience) with strong understanding of UK tax and innovation incentives.
  • Prior experience in R&D tax advisory work, ideally within a professional services or consulting environment.
  • Solid knowledge of the UK R&D tax relief schemes, including practical application and HMRC enquiry processes.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to simplify complex tax and technical matters for a range of stakeholders.
  • Track record of managing multiple projects and leading client-facing engagements.
  • Experience in coaching and supporting team members, contributing to a collaborative and ambitious team culture.
At AAB you will have tremendous opportunities that will meet your career aspirations, working in a progressive, energetic and stimulating environment alongside supportive and engaging professional teammates.
