Join Our Team – Head of Estates

MPA Recruitment is currently seeking an experienced Head of Estates to lead the Estates Department within a leading public sector healthcare organisation in Belfast. This is a high-impact senior management role responsible for overseeing estates strategy, capital projects, facilities compliance, and asset management across the organisation.

Strategic Leadership & Compliance

• Develop and implement an Estates Strategy to deliver a fit-for-purpose estate aligned with operational priorities.


• Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations, including health and safety and environmental legislation.


• Oversee risk management, governance, and quality improvement frameworks across estates and facilities functions.

Facilities & Asset Management

• Lead and modernise asset management systems, including inventory control, condition surveys, and planned maintenance.


• Ensure compliance with performance and financial targets in line with organisational strategy and national standards.


• Support energy conservation and implement sustainable environmental management practices.

Capital Projects

• Drive capital build projects from design to delivery, ensuring high-quality and cost-effective outcomes.


• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to meet deadlines, budget requirements, and service improvements.


• Prepare business cases and manage contracts in line with procurement and financial governance frameworks.

Team & Financial Leadership

• Manage a high-performing estates team using performance management principles.


• Provide strategic advice to the Director and Trust Board on estates operations and capital investment.


• Lead on project reporting, budget oversight, and compliance monitoring across all estates functions.

• A relevant professional qualification AND at least 3 years’ senior-level experience in Estates Management, Health and Safety, Compliance, and Corporate ServicesORAt least 5 years’ experience in a senior estates role in a major organisation.


• Corporate membership of one of the following (or equivalent):
  
  
  • The Institute of Healthcare Engineering and Estate Management
  
  
  • The Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management
  
  
  • The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers
  
  
  • The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Building/Quantity Surveying)
  
  
  • Registered Architect
  
  
  
  


• Demonstrable experience of managing strategic estates functions, asset planning, capital projects, and staff leadership.


• Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to present to senior leadership and boards.


• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (unless exempt under the Disability Discrimination Act).
