Location: LisburnSalary: £17.65 per hourHours: Mon – Fri, 9am – 5pm, 36.25 hoursContract: Temporary 6 months with the possibility of extension

MPA Recruitment is partnering with the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) to recruit two Accounting Technicians to support its Strategic Financial Management and Financial Reporting teams. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dynamic public sector finance environment and contribute to the delivery of key community services.

• Assist in preparing monthly management accounts and financial reports


• Support the Management Accountant with budgeting, forecasts, reconciliations, and variance analysis


• Complete month-end journals and maintain financial records and ledgers


• Reconcile accounts, analyse expenditure, and provide detailed reports using Excel


• Ensure compliance with financial policies and data governance regulations (including GDPR)


• Liaise with internal stakeholders and external auditors


• Contribute to system improvements and the implementation of new financial processes


• Support statutory accounting requirements and departmental returns

• 5 GCSEs (Grade C or above) including English and Maths


• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a finance environment within a medium or large organisation, with:
  
  
  • Journal preparation and month-end reconciliation
  
  
  • Use of computerised accounts packages
  
  
  • Advanced Excel for data capture and reporting
  
  
  
  


• Proven attention to detail and ability to deliver high-quality outputs


• Excellent communication and customer service skills


• Competency in Microsoft applications and accounting software

• Fully qualified Accounting Technician (AAT/ATI or equivalent)


• Experience working in local government or public sector finance
