Job Introduction
BBC News NI is recruiting a journalist to join our multimedia newsroom. It is expected that this role will initially be based in digital and radio bulletins team but the successful candidate could be expected to work across the newsroom. Journalists in the Digital and radio bulletins team deliver articles and videos for the BBC News NI website ( www.bbc.co.uk/newsni ) and for our social platforms. Journalists are also responsible for news bulletins on BBC Radio Ulster and BBC Sounds.
The successful candidate will have; a high standard of written English, evidence of writing concise and accurate news stories, a track record of original journalism, a sound knowledge of politics, current affairs and ongoing issues in Northern Ireland, video production skills, a reputation for creative thinking, and a thorough grasp of the BBC’s Editorial Guidelines and journalism law.

Main Responsibilities
- Writing concise and accurate news stories for the digital team of BBC News NI, demonstrating the ability to exercise strong editorial judgement while under pressure.
- Dealing with complex editorial and legal issues.
- Contributing on a daily basis to the production of original journalism by the BBC News NI team.
- Demonstrating a thorough understanding of the editorial benefits and dangers of social media and an ability to interact informally but credibly with the audience on those platforms.
- Liaising daily with teams in Radio and Television in order to promote an integrated approach across all platforms.
- Be prepared to work across the newsroom in each of the departments under the BBC News NI brand.
- Strong journalistic skills with a deep passion for news and current affairs.
- Excellent writing ability, with a solid understanding of editorial and legal considerations.
- Experience in crafting and producing concise, accurate news stories for multiple outlets.
- In-depth knowledge of politics, current affairs, and ongoing issues in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, and beyond.
- Proven track record of delivering original journalism.
